Buying a property in France has many benefits but some property buyers fail to research the market properly turning there French experience turn into a nightmare.


Essential guidelines for buying a property in France:


• Visit the property – before you finalise everything make sure you check the property is as it should be.


• Employ your own notaire – if you are unsure about price your own notaire will give you honest advise 


• Get a translator - it is essential to understand everything that is being said.


• Only make a verbal offer – wait until you are In the presence of a notaire (legal advisor.)


• Buy on a joint basis – if you are not married to protect the interests of each person it is important to buy on a joint basis.


• Furniture - confirm with the estate agent and notaire that furniture will remain in the property.


• Calculate all costs – make sure you calculate everything even hidden costs to know the exact price of the property.


• Negotiate – always haggle on the price of the property.


• Buy a French mortgage – mortgages in France are cheap and provide tax advantages if you relocate.


• Accept a French marriage contract – if you are married and want your spouse to inherit the property.
